How to Have the Best Day of Your Life

As I pack my suitcase for Brazil, I recall my teacher and dear friend Gabrielle Bernstein, telling me about her trip to see the spiritual healer Mr. Miracle Man, Jon of God. She explained that a shriveled old man welcomed guests into the healing center, by standing outside and exclaiming, “Tooodaiy is de bestttt daei of yourrrrrrr lifeeeee!”

As I listened to her story of the man sharing his prophecy with such exuberance, I felt an overwhelming sense of joy.  It was as if I was there with her in the remote town in Brazil. And in less than two days I will be that girl, walking into the casa in hopes of celebrating the best day of my life.

Over the past few years I have made it my full time job to become the happiest person I know. I did this by fearlessly taking an aggressive internal inventory and removing what no longer served me. This included a corporate job in advertising, which I traded in for my writing career so I could play with the world as a travel writer. I left a serious romantic relationship to opt for singlehood so I could learn to love myself fully.

I can honestly say that today and every day is the best day of my life. Can you imagine having everyday of your life be better than the day before? It is possible, and here are the tips I have used to maintain a constant state of happiness.

Smile

“You must smile. Smile with face, smile with mind, and good energy will come to you and clear away dirty energy. Even smile in your liver.” –Ketut, from Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat, Pray, Love, said this. I practice smiling everyday. Lately, I find myself walking around with a perm-a-grin and finding it hard not to smile. When I smile I feel better, I look better and I attract good things to me. Practice feeling more love in the moment by smiling. Even if you are having a down day, just smile and you may notice your mood will improve dramatically. The more I smile, the happier I become.

Trust

The biggest aspect of being happy is being able to trust.  First and foremost, trusting yourself.  Only when you know yourself fully can you trust yourself. Being happy requires honoring your own self and standing up for you. Trust that you know what is best for you. Stop looking to society, family or friends to answer or solve your problems. When you go to your heart, the answer will be clear. Trust that you are right where you need to be and everything is in divine order. And secondly, trust that the universe always has your back.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.” This means that you must only take one step, and trust that the next step will reveal itself.

Live From Your Heart

If you are on a mission to find and keep your happiness glowing, then you must learn not to put attention towards anything you don’t want. I have refocused my life to only focus on experiences that I want. As a result, I have an extremely successful business, a book coming out, my dream car, my dream dog and my dream home. I always live from my heart. I listen to my inner voice and I stay in constant connection to my authentic self.

And today, as I zip up my suitcase, my inner voice is pulling me to go visit the guru Jon of God. When I left the corporate world a few years ago, I made a promise to myself, to always follow my heart and make no apologies for who I am. I am me, and I choose happy. So here I go, ready to jump in to my future. And who would have known the real me is taking me to Brazil. Because it is time that I make every day the best day of my life.
