We Need Each Other

I spoke to a close friend the other day and she explained how hopeless and overwhelmed she feels. We dissected the problem as we talked deeper about the world and its current state of affairs.

Today it seems everywhere we look, we are being asked to pick sides. My president not my president, my team not my team—with this division and clear line in the sand, it can be hard to feel connection and a sense of belonging. This separation is keeping us from seeing the real beauty of being alive: that we are more alike in our humanity than we realize, and we need each other. People feel overwhelmed and hopeless. We are fatigued, emotionally drained and concerned for the well-being of the planet and ourselves and the safety of our loved ones.

Fear, judgment and a lack of faith are at an all-time high and they seem to be dictating our outcome. For so many of us, we’ve lost the capacity to find our joy and see any real magic in being alive. When this happens, we tend to shut down, but what if there was another way?

When this happens the tendency is to retreat. So many of us shut down emotionally, physically, even spiritually. We become a shell of who we really are. We drop into survival mode and do everything we can to just make it through the day, all while fear is driving our focus. But what if there was another way . . .

What if instead of falling into fear, we leaned into love?
What if instead of listening to our head, we believed in our heart?
What if instead of retreating inward, we expanded outward?
What if instead of shutting down, we opened up?
What if instead of ignoring our own needs, we honored them?
What if instead of fearing life, we began to trust it?
What if instead of obsessing about the past or future, we lived so fully in the present that nothing else mattered?
What if instead of feeling drained, exhausted, and overwhelmed, we felt excited, passionate, and purposeful?
What if instead of chasing happiness, we allowed joy?

What if we came together and united as one?

What if we allowed for all beliefs to be and truly supported each other with love?

This way of life is possible. It is the only way to heal ourselves and transform the world.
