Warp Speed to Wholeness: How to Heal Trauma, Addictions and Chronic Pain with Dr. Jeff McNairy

Welcome to the New Year. This often brings new energy and a shift in consciousness as we open up to new ideas, possibilities and hopes and dreams.  But sometimes the start of the year can bring up what didn’t go so well the year before. Last year was incredible tough for me. From traumatic breakups with friends and romantic partners, overcoming narcissistic abuse, career setbacks, a diagnosis of fibromyalgia and complex migraines, and family and friend deaths, I found myself again at an even deeper rock bottom. But through the darkness we can find a brighter light.

I was fed up with feeling horrible in my body and mind and experiencing such a decline on my quality of life, I set out on a healing journey to discover and educate myself on a more holistic path to mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, which lead me to work directly with Shamans from ingenious cultures. I spent significant time in Costa Rica and Mexico, where I discovered in depth the healing power Gaia guidance.  Gaia, is earth energy, and planet earth is not only our home but our path to true wellness. But focusing on feeling good, especially when we feel unwell, can sometime be a challenge.

If you have been more anxious, stressed out or on edge lately, you are not alone. So many of us are in a post-traumatic stress response due to the state of the world over the past few years. As a life coach and an author who writes books on the psychology of happiness and getting unstuck, I’ve made it my life’s work to help people feel better, but in order to do this best, I have to study our inner world to see how it can better impact the otter world.

Personal growth and dedicating ourselves to a path of advancement is important, but when life hits us hard moving forward can be tough.  That’s why I flew to Costa Rica last month to meet with Dr. Jeff McNairy, the chief medical officer of Rythmia Life Advancement Center. Jeff has focused the past couple decades helping people find healing and happiness through the most breakthrough modalities, psychology, and he is an advocate (like me) for plant medicine. He is a trauma informed psychologist, so I wanted to see first-hand how mother nature has the ability to heal and transform our mind and bodies, especially with plant medicine. I invited him on the Awakened and Aligned podcast to talk about our mental health and optimal path to wholeness, in the age of anxiety and post collective world stress, can we truly heal?

Jeff and I both believe the endless grind of the Western medical model struggles to actually heal people. Symptom management is not the answer to health. I learned this directly last year, with my health crisis, and constantly feeling unwell, despite monthly doctor visits, emergency room stays and feeling gaslight by my doctors. Jeff shares the key has been to find the root cause of our unhappiness, health concern, and discontent, then resolving it is the only way to truly find peace. Jeff opens up about how one plant medicine session conducted in a safe environment that is clinically appropriate can be as effective as 10 years of psychotherapy. Through Dr. McNairy’s intense experience and programs with the most desperate patient populations (addition, acute mental health, and trauma), he has seen that the only real healing can come from within. Today we talk about healing and the fastest path to wholeness.

You’re in for a treat. If health, wellness and how it connects to our mental health and ultimate wellbeing is important to you, you will enjoy this conversation. If you want to feel better in your body and create more meaningful relationships, this podcast is for you.

What is Plant Medicine?

Herbal medicine is the use of medicinal plants such as herbs, roots, shrubs, leaves, tree barks in to treat disease and maintain or enhance general health and wellbeing. Plant medicines generally take the approach of returning the body to a state of natural balance so that it can heal itself. Findings show that over 60% of the world’s population and around 80% in developing countries depend directly on medicinal plants for their medical needs. In recent times, this practice has enjoyed an unprecedented resurgence globally. This is due to the growing dissatisfaction with conventional medicine as more people now find these alternative therapies more effective, affordable, and accessible.

Plant medicines come in many forms: dried, chopped, powdered, capsule, or liquid. They can be used in various ways, including:

  • Brewed as tea
  • Swallowed as capsules, powders, or tinctures
  • Inhaled as smoke, steam, or vapor
  • Applied to the skin as gels, lotions, or creams
  • Added to bath water

Medicinal plants and fungi have powerful active ingredients and should be taken with care and guidance at the same level of caution as pharmaceutical medications.

Different Types of Plant Medicines

This shows that our world is highly rich with natural sources of healing and vitality. We are just scratching the surface of what is available to us. However, from these documented medicinal plants, the entheogens, are among the most powerful and beneficial to human health. This is due to a large part because they offer spiritual, mental, and emotional healing, in addition to the physical healing
