How to Transform Suffering

2017 has been intensely full of challenges and victories. Over the past year, all across the world we’ve seen extremes. Contrasting views; political, media, and entertainment scandals; countries rising up and splitting apart—on a mass level, we are all witnessing major change.

The Universe is asking all of us to be intentional and realign with our values. We are called to release the old and step into the new. But for some of us the old is safe: beliefs, habits, people, situations, careers—you know, all those things that are in your life that no longer bring you joy, but you hold on to them because they are familiar. Those are the things we can be letting go of.

When we hold onto what is being asked to let go of, we cause more suffering to others and ourselves. It’s kind of like being in a relationship with someone you know you want to break up with but you don’t want to hurt the other person, so you hold on. But the longer you wait, the more suffering will occur.

The key is honesty. Take some time to revisit your past year, celebrate your successes, and re-evaluate what didn’t work. How are you spending your time, money, and energy and what do you want for your future?
