What to Do When You Have What You Want But Feel Empty

Another theme presenting itself is the idea that you are living a dream you wanted and it has come true, but something still feels off. Maybe you got the dream job, or you have the relationship you wanted for so long, or you are growing your own business and getting more clients or press recognition, but something still feels off. It doesn’t feel like what you had hoped or thought. If you have what you want but you are unsure why it doesn’t feel better, today’s message will help. I am in Budapest, Hungary, filmed in front of one of my favorite buildings on the planet. I hope you enjoy today’s tips and the gorgeous view.

If you relate, then today’s tips will help you feel more fulfillment:

1. Let Go of Expectations

Most often we think the goal or dream we keep working toward will give us happiness or security or more joy. This is an expectation, as these feelings can really come only from within. Instead of putting expectations on your life and how it is supposed to look and feel, practice feeling those feelings without any outside focus. Things, situations, and people can’t fill what is missing within, so the emptiness is not a result of the situation not working out but rather a lack of focus on self-care and love. Turn your attention inward and focus on showing up for yourself by releasing expectations and being more in the process. Turn your expectations into gratitude.

2. Identify Who You Have Become

Identify the lessons you have learned in becoming who you are today. The situation and goal that came true has helped you become in to a person you can be proud of.

3. Give Yourself What You Desire

Chances are, what you are living is what you thought you wanted. The problem is, it just doesn’t feel like what you had hoped. The fix is to actually give yourself the thing you thought you would get. If you wanted happiness, ask yourself, “How can I be happy right now?” If you wanted more joy, simply go inward and connect with joyful thoughts. This is a powerful process that will help you feel better in each moment.

Hi Shannon, I have just started following you after reading your beautiful book adventures for your soul. After years of mental illness I am ready to take control of my life and seeing this video has reinforced my beliefs that I can do it. I certainly had too many expectations as to who and what I should have been which has caused nothing but hurt and disappointment. I am ready to make life happen and no longer wait for it to happen to me. I thank you for setting me on that path 🙂
