3 Unexpected Reasons You Can’t Find Self-Love

I have a simple question for you. How do you talk to yourself, about yourself?

My friends Christine Hassle and Mel Wells say, “If you talked to your friends the way you talked to yourself, would you have any?”

The reality is, most of us are so down on ourselves, we actually prevent ourselves from feeling more love because of our inner critic. This inner voice can be limiting, especially when we believe the nasty voice.  It actually blocks us from feeling more joy. In today’s powerful video, I’ve identified some of the top barriers that keep us from feeling self-love and appreciation. If you struggle to feel confident, you will love today’s message filmed in pretty, serene Kyoto, Japan.

Watch Here:

If you struggle to accept yourself, perhaps it is one of these reasons:

1. Limiting Belief #1: You Are Not Good Enough

There may be some piece of you that feels unworthy and undeserving of the things you want. Do you feel inadequate? Do you compare yourself to others and often feel like you don’t measure up? If so, this is a sign you don’t feel good enough. Feeling like we aren’t good enough is an ego trick. The fear-based mind tries to create this experience by telling you that you aren’t good enough, which keeps you feeling low energy and disgusted with yourself.

To fix this situation, practice self-care. This will help you improve your self- confidence. The more you show up for yourself, the easier it is to speak kindly to yourself.

2. Limiting Belief #2: You Feel Like You Are Not Where You Think You Should Be in Your Life

Do you feel off track, like you are not where you thought you would be at this stage of your life? We often put extra pressure on ourselves, especially because of society, culture, and family obligations. We feel like we have to do certain things and if we don’t measure up or check off the boxes, something is wrong with us. As if we are the ones to blame. The truth is, you are right where you need to be in life. Every choice you have made has led you to where you are today, and each choice you make helps you become more of who you really are. Focus on what you want instead of how far off track you feel. The truth is, life is ever unfolding, and you get to create your reality. What do you want for yourself? Make the choices to align daily with how you want to feel and where you want to be.

3. Limiting Belief #3: Something Is Wrong with Me

If, at the core of your actions, you feel wounded, unfixable, as if something is wrong with you, it may be hard to feel love. In my life-coaching practice, I work with people to help empower them to see their greatness. It all starts with your own belief system, and if you believe in yourself and your with life is easier and you feel more love.

In the comments below, take action by sharing what you will do today to show up for yourself. How will you show yourself more love?

Thank you for this. Today I turn 42 years old and have been struggling with the fact that I have never been married, no kids, living paycheck to paycheck. Not where I thought I would be at 42. So I needed to hear your message today. Thank you!

Im feeling stuck, pressured and frustrated, but after listening to your message – it reminded me to listen to myself and my God. I haven’t made a decision yet because Im just not ready to. I’m still in my process mode and I need to tell myself that’s ok. And remind myself, I do make decisions and commit when I’m ready, at my pace. Thanks 🙂

Shannon, thank you for the encouragement to have more self-love and self-acceptance. It can feel so much easier to beat ourselves up for our mistakes, but I don’t think that helps us learn. I think that if we would talk to ourselves the way we would talk to our own friends then we would treat ourselves with much more kindness and compassion.

For me, I will show myself more love by seeing myself the way my friends and family see me and the way God sees me: as wonderfully made, valuable, and loved completely. This will help remind me to be more compassionate and understanding with myself.

Sometimes we procrastinate because we are fearful of the outcome, other times we really just don’t want to do it. Hope that helps

Such a perfectly timed message – again! I remind my self today that I am grateful for all that I have. I care for myself by saying yes to opportunities that come up, even if i think i am not ‘ready’ for them. I trust myself and the timing of the universe!
