How to Remain Hopeful When the Outcome Is Uncertain

I am in the middle of pitching my next book idea to major publishers. This has been a goal of mine for the past six months and after working on the proposal, my agent and I are finally pitching it. But the outcome is very uncertain because I don’t have control over it. Even though I don’t know the fate of my next book, I am remaining surprisingly, incredibly peaceful. I feel balanced, calm, and happy that I am working toward making this dream come true.

Jack Canfield, the co-author of Chicken Soup For the Soul series, was rejected by 130 publishers. He just kept going, and knew his dream needed to be realized. Jack believed in himself and didn’t let outside influences waver his focus.  Soon after his book was published he became a millionaire.

When you have a dream that you want to be realized, have tunnel vision on the outcome you want to receive. Focus everything you have on the outcome you want, it will come true much faster.

As we continue to pitch my book idea, and rejections come back, it could be difficult to remain optimisitc. One may look at the rejection and feel defeated or even give up on their dream, but I remain hopeful and in pure peace. I know that my energy can effect the outcome. So I hold steady in my belief in the book and my dream coming true.I know this book needs to be put in the world, and I can’t wait until your gorgeous hands wrap around it. I trust that the right publisher will see the potential and want to buy it.

Are you currently in a situation that is out of your control? Do you feel uncertain about the fate of your future? If so, these simple tips can help:

1. Focus on What You Want and Let Go of Attachments

Chances are, you haven’t seen the results you want, but don’t worry about what is going on currently. Focus all your attention on what you want. Release the need to have it look an exact way, and instead focus your energy on the results you want to see. For example, with my next book, I am not attached to the publisher. Sure, I have publishers I’d like to work with and think would be a great fit, but I am more committed to the book finding a perfect home with a publishing house that believes in it as much as I do. I am not attached. When you focus on what you want, the rejection along the way will not faze you because you aren’t attached to the outcome—instead, you trust that the right pieces will align. Commit all your focus on what you want and you will get it much faster.

 2. Trust the Timing

A huge part of turning the uncertainty into certainty in your life is to trust that everything has a universal timing. I may think I know when my next book should be out, but the universe always has a greater plan. I’ve been working on this idea for the past six months. And we still haven’t sold it, because I know there is a divine timing to everything. I keep my spirits high and trust that The Universe, my higher power, has a plan so much greater than mine. If you wish something would happen that has yet to manifest, recognize that there is a divine timing to your dreams coming true. Plus you are still becoming who you need to be in order to live out that dream.

3. Believe in the Power of You

Believe in your dream and yourself! This is the fastest way to get what you want. When you believe in yourself the outside world will not faze you. Keep believing in you and know that that the world needs what you have.

Shannon, you are such an inspiration. I am exactly in that state of wondering and uncertainty. Your video brought me so much. I am developping my business and just need a bit more clients and hoping that February will be better and your video made it better.

I am very familiar with coaching. I had a fabulous coach for 6 months and she changed my life. I came out with something different then I started with and it was perfect. I am French, so excuse my vocabulary. We have communicated a bit together and you always bring me what I need at the right moment. Your book, Find your happy, was the trigger to my new life. What a shift it made.

I moved from Vancouver BC Canada, Back to Quebec to be with my family after 20 years. The transition was very difficult being that I am not 20 anymore. 53 now and starting from scratch.

I am interested to learn more about your personal coaching. 🙂

Thank you and I want you to know that if you ever need a place to stay while you are in the region of Montreal for your beautiful work, as I live in Beloeil, Montérégie, Québec. You are always welcome to my home.

Have a fabulous weekend Shannon. This video made a huge difference in my life.

    Thank you!!!!!

    Christine 😀

Thank you! This video was very helpful for me. I had abandoned my artistic talent after several years of depression and anxiety brought on by negative people who surrounded me. While I can’t change those people, I can and have started drawing and painting illustrations again which in turn has brought me peace and joy. From here, I am letting let the universe take me to where I was always meant to be in my life.

Hi Shannon! Thank you so much for sharing your tips and advice. I enjoy reading your blog and I am encouraged by you and your story! I know the book you’ve been working is going to get published someday, hopefully soon, if it hasn’t already…(I realize this is an older article, so maybe some publisher has picked up your idea, which would be awesome!!)

I am curious as I’ve read your articles what is your Higher Power? I know you said the Universe is your Higher Power, so I guess what I was wondering is if you are referring to God? What religious tradition would you say you are, or is it a mix of more than one, etc.?

I am not meaning to ask this in any negative type of way. I just like your thoughts and wondered what type of religion (if any) you would say you follow, believe, or have faith in?

    Thank you!
