3 Happiness Tricks that You Haven’t Tried Yet (but Totally Should)

There are two kinds of people in the world:

  1. Those who make lists.
  2. Those who don’t.

Are you a list person? I am. I love the idea of checking things off and feeling complete. I make lists for everything, and I believe it is the bedrock to my happiness routine.

Science will often argue those who make lists might hold the secret to being more productive individuals, but productivity aside, have you every thought about creating a list to help you be happy?

Today I want to share happiness tricks that I use in my life-coaching practice and workshops. I actually use three different types of lists to help me feel more peace, and these tools can help you, too.

Try these three lists for ultimate happiness:

1. Create a Me Matters List

Me Matters is a list of things that you love to do. Things that bring you incredible joy. Think about things that help you feel alive and connected to your best self. What does your ideal day look like? Simply ask yourself, “When do I feel like my best self?” Then create a list of all the things that bring you incredible joy, such as mediation, exercise, travel, etc. Carry around your Me Matters list for a daily dose of happiness.

2. Create a Let Go List

Let it go. In my book Adventures for Your Soul I talk about letting go of what no longer serves you. And as you let go of things, people, places, and things that no longer feel good for you, more things that you want can come to you. If you want something you don’t yet have, you have to let go of something that is blocking you.

It’s like author Elizabeth Gilbert says in interviews. She wanted to become a serious writer, so she let go of her favorite TV show The Sopranos, she let go of something she liked for something she loved. What can you let go of?

3. Create a Gratitude List

This is a list of all the things that make you appreciative and happy. A gratitude list can be as short or as long as you want, but writing down what you are thankful for is key. When you can reflect and appreciate all that is well, you will feel more grounded and happy.

    Shannon- I love all your articles! Thank you for doing what you do! I am a list maker also. I make list for what I need to do for the day, lists for my exercise goals for the day, gratitude lists, etc… I never thought to make a list for the things that make me happy! I’m getting right on it today!
